ROOM 19 - MATH TALK

My name is Rebecca Gehrer, and I've been teaching since 2002.  I received my Bachelor's Degree in Education from Wichita State University.  I taught at the 2nd grade level for a total of 8 glorious years!  I found it so rewarding to foster and then witness their reading progress.  Later I served as an ESOL teacher for 2 years, which allowed me to work with smaller group sizes of all ages.  I then became an Instructional Coach where I presented district professional devolopments to my school staff.  It was a wonderful experience, where I learned A LOT, but I missed working with students desperately.  So, I went back into a 4th grade classroom.  Those students were just what I needed!

When the 5th Grade Math position opened at Collegiate I was encouraged by my husband (Joe Gehrer, 6th Grade Literature) to interview.  Being with my family everyday, doing what I LOVE, using a curriculum I've used for 9 years, with Master Teachers, in a prestigious school such as Collegiate???  YES PLEASE!!

So now, I happily go to work each morning with Joe and our 3 children, Lucy (class of 2026), Olivia (class of 2028), and Crosby (class of 2033).  We love traveling, playing games, and spending time around the fire pit with family and friends.  We also LOVE and appreciate being a part of the Collegiate Community.
